When I could still walk around like a spring chicken, I couldn’t overlook a large number of homeless people. Many of them were accompanied by dogs.
I came across cases, where “fake homeless”, after all or half a “working” day, packed their bags, picked up the cups with “hard earned” cash and walked around the corner to their flashy car, just to take of and spend their time with family, friends, sipping bear in front of the telly. Yes, there are parasites like that. They get “discovered”, named and shamed after some time, but still…
I often heard comments from passers by, when they were looking at homeless sitting on the street with their dogs, that “the dog looks well fed, so they must be fake”. The truth is, those dogs are mostly the best (if not only) friend that they have, and feeding the animal is a bigger priority than taking care of themselves. Dogs’ loyalty is in no way comparable to human feelings. Animals don’t lie and they will not betray you, if you take care of them. Something that humanity will probably never learn.
Most of so called “beggars” are genuinely the people that lost it all and have no hope for a better future. Of course, there are some individuals that kind of choose this lifestyle and refuse help, when it is offered. Some of them were on the street for so long that a vision of something new scares them. Some consider themselves free and the reality of being a part of society carefully watched and ruled by Big Brother is not an option. The view that I admire, though I think there are many ways of breaking free and those are achievable with some persistence and determination.
According to the stories heard from homeless people that I spoke to, it’s true that most (if not all) shelters do not permit pets. I am not sure how widely this rule is implemented in reality. Then I came across the below article and I thought that it’s a great idea. It would be wonderful though to establish such places globally and not as a temporary, but a permanent solution. As I read this article, I had a vision of a great good that could be done! Ideas are flooding to my head and I wish, I could make it happen in whatever lifetime I’ve got left!
I truly hope that good people will share my ideas and will help me to realise my Grand Plan. Details of which I will publish soon. I am not a great writer but I will do my best to cover all the aspects and explain in detail how I see it work. I would love to consult my vision with people, get some support and advice, so please, share it people, so I can do at least one thing that I am truly proud of (just after my kids). Let’s make the World a better place.
